Building on a partnership that started in 2009, Specialty Family Foundation invested $100,000 per year to support Prototypes’ innovative Mother and Child Residential Program. This investment helped fund Prototypes’ substance use disorder treatment services for women, many of whom also have children, in a residential setting. Funds covered the cost of 163 beds for women and 90 beds for children who fall into the Medi-Cal coverage gap.

A program offered through HealthRIGHT 360, Prototypes believes that substance use and mental health disorders are chronic diseases that require comprehensive treatment to help families thrive. Unlike other treatment programs, Prototypes encourages women to enter treatment with their children. By strengthening parent-child bonds and parenting skills, Prototypes’ unique approach improves the success rate of those in recovery while helping break the intergenerational cycle of addiction, incarceration, and poverty.

Our investments have supported evidence-based practice curriculum, staff training and development, and efficacy as Prototypes continues serving an estimated 800 women and 100 children annually.
